WHAT WILL A CLASS BE LIKE?

IMG_9487.jpeg

smArt classes will follow the same format each week. A class format will  look something like this:

  • Students will be shown a new technique using that month's art medium (supply). For instance, we might work on diluting acrylic paint until it is translucent when used.

  • Next, we will practice painting with the diluted paint.

  • Then, we will discuss together creative ways a student could use the new technique in their own work. For example, the translucent paint could be used for steam, smoke, haze, fog, etc.

  • Finally, the students will be given a challenge. Example: The student to the left was given the challenge of using the translucent paint to demonstrate "cold". She used the translucent paint to show the condensation on a cold window.

  • After the students have completed their weekly assignments, a parent can email me a photo of their work along with a title for the piece. It will be uploaded into the current gallery to share with the other students. Only the name of the piece will be included with the artwork.

Tracy Emond

I graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in Elementary Education. I taught in both public and private schools prior to making the family choice to homeschool.  This is our 17th year homeschooling.

I have taught art classes for over two decades. I enjoy finding new and fun ways to explore art while challenging students to find their own style and xreativity.

Covid-19 has made this a new virtual challenge.

Last year my art classes had to finish off the year through Zoom, so I feel up to the challenge.
